First Year Scholarship
Awards
Awarded to qualified first year entering
students who have a minimum combined MCAT score of 18 and a minimum cumulative
undergraduate GPA of 3.0. The competitiveness rating of the undergraduate college will be
a consideration. No application is necessary. Up to $10,000 is applied to first year's
tuition.
Goldsmith-Greenfield Scholarship
Presented to a first year student who has
excelled as an undergraduate and has demonstrated financial need. No application is
necessary; the award is for approximately $1,500.
Gilbert Master, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship
Criteria for selection include a minimum overall
GPA of 3.2, a minimum MCAT score of 20, and exhibit leadership qualities. No application
is necessary.
Georgia Student Scholar Aid Fund
(Loan)
Student must submit written application in essay
format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The award is presented to a first
year student who is a resident of the state of Georgia, adheres to the ideals of the
podiatric medical profession, has leadership qualities and a demonstrated financial need.
Value of the award is approximately $1,000.
Second Year Scholarships
Union Family Scholarship
Student must submit written application in
essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The award is approximately
$1,000. The Award is presented to a second year student from Georgia, who adheres to the
ideals of the podiatric medical profession, has leadership qualities and a demonstrated
financial need.
Class of 1989 Clinical Instrument
Award
The Clinical Instruments Award provides an
annual award to a student in his/her second year to purchase podiatric instruments. The
award is based on financial need and is variable.
Dr. G. Elmer Harford Memorial
Scholarship
Presented to a second year student who has
excelled in courses in the anatomical sciences. The recipient shall be a member of the
Stirling-Harford Honorary Anatomical Society, be ranked in the top 50 percent of the
class, and have a demonstrated financial need. No application is necessary. The amount of
the award is variable.
Dr. Gartha E. Wolfe Memorial
Scholarship
At the conclusion of the first year academic
program, those members of the class with standing in the upper fifty percent of their
class with a demonstrated financial need are evaluated by the vice president for Academic
Affairs and Dean, and the Vice President for Student Affairs or their designees. The names
of selected recipients are forwarded first to the Senior Officers for recommendation and
then to the Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees
approves the final selections. No application is necessary.
Third Year Scholarships
Richard E. Adler, D.P.M.,
Scholarship
One scholarship is presented to a third
year student based upon academic excellence and service to the community. Students must
submit a written application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October
1. The award is $500.
Lynn Catapano, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship
Presented to a third year female student
who is in good academic standing and has demonstrated a special interest and
accomplishment in Microbiology. No application is necessary. Approximately $1,000 is
available.
Briskin-Sitkoff Scholarship
Presented to a third year student based on academic excellence and financial
need. No application is necessary. The value of the award is approximately $1,000.
J. David Derr, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship
Presented to third year students who have excelled academically, have a record
of service to the College and colleagues, and have a demonstrated financial need. Student
must submit a written application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by
October 1. Five awards of approximately $4,000 each are available.
Dean Charles E. and Alice W. Krausz
Scholarship
Presented to a third year student who has excelled academically, has a record
of service to the College and colleagues, has a demonstrated financial need, a record of
service to community organizations and is involved in extracurricular activity. Student
must submit a written application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by
October 1. Approximately $2,000 is available.
Edwin B. Martin, Jr., D.P.M.,
Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the third year student who has achieved in academic endeavors and
has served his/her classmates through involvement in campus organizations and community
involvement. The recipient shall rank in the top 50 percent of his/her class and have a
demonstrated financial need. In addition, the student's cumulative educational debt will
be a factor in the selection process. Student must submit a written application in essay
format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The amount of the award is
variable.
Paul R. Quintavalle, Sr., D.P.M.,
Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a student who exemplifies Dr. Quintavalle's personal standards:
compassion for patients and commitment to the community, academic excellence, and
demonstrated financial need. Student must submit a written application in essay format to
the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The value of the award is approximately
$1,000.
Fourth Year Scholarships
Felex A. Hess Memorial
Scholarship/Fund
Presented to a fourth year student who
has demonstrated the greatest contribution in the clinical medical curriculum to patient
care. This contribution may be in the area of research, daily clinical activity,
humanistic services, etc. The recipient should possess academic excellence, a devotion to
PCPM and have financial need. No application is necessary. The amount of the award
is approximately $1,000.
John Buckholz/Harold Vogler
Surgical Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student
based on clinical qualifications as per recommendations from the Surgery Department:
academic abilities in the 80 to 85 percentile; and interest and promise in the research of
the foot and ankle. No application is necessary. The award is for approximately $1,000.
Dr. Louis and Ruth Newman
Scholarship Fund
Presented to a fourth year student with
demonstrated financial need and proficiency in surgery. No application is necessary. The
award is worth approximately $1,000.
William L. Goldfarb, D.P.M.,
Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student who has
demonstrated outstanding services to his/her classmates, the College and the Podiatric
Profession. The recipient should be ranked in the top 50 percent of the class and have a
demonstrated financial need. Student must submit a written application in essay format to
the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The award amount is variable.
Stanley Grode, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student who has
excelled in the study of anatomical sciences. The recipient should also have contributed
to the science of anatomy through research and/or publication. The recipient's
demonstrated financial need will also be a factor in the selection process. Student must
submit a written application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October
1. The amount of the award is variable.
Leonard Hymes, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship Award
Presented annually to the graduating student
who has shown outstanding commitment to the profession of podiatric medicine through
his/her humanistic service to others. The recipient should possess academic excellence,
citizenship and a record of service to classmates, patients and PCPM. Student must submit
a written application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The
award is approximately $1,000.
James V. Ganley, D.P.M., Memorial
Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student with
demonstrated interest and accomplishment in podiatrics and with financial need. Students
will be nominated by the department of Orthopedics. No application is necessary. The
award is approximately $1,000.
E. Dalton McGlamry, D.P.M.,
Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student with
demonstrated financial need and ranked within the top 20 percent of the class in the first
three years of surgery grades. Total indebtedness will be considered. The recipient is
under no legal obligation, but has a moral obligation to repay once having achieved
financial stability. No application is necessary. The amount of the award is approximately
$1,000.
Kate L. Paine Memorial
Scholarship in Peripheral Vascular Disease
Presented to a fourth year student based on
performance in the Peripheral Vascular Disease course and documented financial need. The
top ten students in the Peripheral Vascular Disease course will be identified by the
Department of Medicine. No application is necessary. The amount of the award is
approximately $1,000.
James E. Bates, D.P.M.,
Presidential Scholarship
Presented to a fourth year student who has
established an outstanding record of academic accomplishment, service to the College and
community and personal and professional integrity. Student must submit a written
application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. Value of the
award is approximately $5,000.
J. E. Smaha, Sr., Memorial
Scholar Aid Award
Presented to a fourth year student on
the basis of academic achievement, leadership on or off campus and demonstrated financial
need. Student must submit a written application in essay format to the Office of Student
Affairs by October 1. All appropriate financial aid needs analysis must be on file with
the Office of Financial Aid. The value of the awards is approximately $1,000.
For Students in Any Class
Raymond J. Harris
Educational Fund
Presented to a second, third or fourth
year student based on academic excellence, community service, financial need and
cumulative educational debt. "Scholarships will be awarded to Christian young men to
obtain professional education in medicine, law, engineering, dentistry or
architecture" (as specified in donor's will). Applications are made available
to students by the Financial Aid Office. Complete financial aid file and faculty letters
of recommendation are required. The amount of the award is variable. Application deadline
is October 1.
Edith Fitton Herrin Scholarship
Presented to a second, third or
fourth year student based on academic excellence, community service, financial need and
cumulative debt. "Scholarships will be awarded to an accredited student or students,
either men or women, attending in good academic faith, any of the accredited medical
schools in Philadelphia" (as specified in donor's will) Applications are made
available to students by the Financial Aid Office. Complete financial aid file and faculty
letters of recommendation are required. Application deadline is October 1.
Clarke - AFF League Scholarship
Presented to "deserving medical
students of Caucasian race and Christian faith" (as specified in the donors will).
The recipient shall be a second, third or fourth year student with demonstrated financial
need and excellence academically and in community service. Applications are available from
the Financial Aid Office. Complete financial aid file, statement of professional goals and
faculty letters of recommendation are required. Application deadline is October 1.
PCPM Chapter of the APMSA
Scholarship Award
Presented to a full time second, third
or fourth year student. The successful candidate must have a minimum grade point average
of 80, be involved in activities outside the classroom that benefit the profession or
College and have demonstrated financial need. The recipient must not have received any
other scholarship for the current academic year. Students must submit a written
application in essay format to the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The award is
$500.
T. George Downs Memorial Scholar
Aid Award (Loan)
Presented to students in good academic
standing, with a specialized interest in biomechanics or bioengineering with an
application to podiatric medicine and a demonstrated ability to conduct high quality
research. Students must submit a written application in essay format describing their
research activities by October 1. Approximately $2,500 annually divided among one to five
recipients based upon available funds and the discretion of the Selection Committee.
Krausz-Schultz Scholarship
Presented to a second, third or fourth
year student who is a legal resident of Pennsylvania. The successful candidates must be in
the top 50% of the class, be actively involved in the College community and have
demonstrated financial need. Students must submit a written application in essay format to
the Office of Student Affairs by October 1. The award is approximately $1,500.
D. Richard Dinapoli, D.P.M.,
Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a
student in one of the two categories listed: (1) a student in the PCPM-DPM/Ph.D. program
who demonstrates a commitment to completion of the program,e excellence in academic
standards, dedication to the profession, and financial need, or (2) a fourth year student
who demonstrates and interest in, and commitment to the advancement of surgical treatment
of the foot and ankle, dedication, integrity and financial need. No application is
necessary. The award is approximately $1,000.
